Felicia's Journey
NFTS Production design workshop

Dining Room

Joseph Hilditch eats his dinner here whilst watching his mother taste the same meal from an old VHS tape playing on TV.

The Dining Room holds the first scene where we realise there's something very dark about Joseph.

We see Joseph eat dinner with what we initially understand as V.O. of his and Felicia’s conversation, then we realise he’s watching a secretly taped conversation of their conversation on TV.

The low ceiling compresses the room, to feel tight and uncomfortable
The background behind Joseph at dining table emphasize mother/child bond and juxtapose narcissism with loneliness
Mother takes centre attention (TV) and dominates over Joseph Hilditch
The symmetry in design creates control, obsession & discomfort
